Posted: ( Sun 1st Apr 2001 10:29:42[PM] UTC )
Evaluted here is VMware Express 2.0 and Netraverse's Win4Lin 2.0. Linux : Reviews : A look at Killustrator from KDE
Posted: ( Sun 1st Apr 2001 09:14:43[PM] UTC )
"Killustrator is supposed to be a vector-based graphics design product that you can use on the Linux platform. This being said, how useful it will be to you is an open question because the product does not appear to be perfect yet. It appears to be a work in development."

Linux : Reviews : MaxOS Linux: Three clicks to Linux
Posted: ( Tue 20th Mar 2001 10:41:10[PM] UTC )
Although not meant for the experienced Linux user, MaxOS Linux has made huge strides toward making Linux more appealing to the average Windows user. In the hardware area however, MaxOS Linux is kind of iffy. A good way to tweak your video settings would have been a nice addition.

Linux : Reviews : Improve your desktop with KDE2
Posted: ( Mon 19th Mar 2001 01:00:36[AM] UTC )
It is impossible not to be extremely impressed with Konqueror--the file and Web Browser. Athought there are a few glitches, KDE2 is definitely worth taking a look at, especially if you are already a KDE user. But even if you're not, you should really check it out.

Linux : Reviews : Comanche review
Posted: ( Sun 18th Mar 2001 10:50:35[PM] UTC )
Comanche has a great modular and expandible framework. However, it's still not ready for production use for full-time Apache management. Athough not a tool for the admin with dozens of Web servers to work with, it's great for a non-guru who needs to admin an Apache installation for an intranet or small Web server.

Linux : Reviews : Sylpheed: A fitter email client
Posted: ( Thu 15th Mar 2001 10:29:30[PM] UTC )
"Sylpheed is faster, more stable, and more complete than Evolution is today. It may be the best Linux email client I've used, although I want to spend a little more time with it before making that pronouncement."

Linux : Reviews : Icepack Linux
Posted: ( Thu 15th Mar 2001 10:26:45[PM] UTC )
"Squarely targeting consumer Windows users who want to give Linux a try, the $25 Icepack Linux provides a usable installation wizard complete with a partition resizer, a colorful and configurable GUI, and excellent hardware recognition."

Linux : Reviews : Introducing iceSculptor: Chilliware's desktop publisher shows promise and immaturity
Posted: ( Tue 6th Mar 2001 11:25:52[PM] UTC )
"That is not to say that the application does not work or that it is bad. It is good as a basic desktop publishing program. But iceSculptor needs a few things before it can swim with the big fish. It needs a basic image-editing tool that resizes imported graphic objects. It is missing too many features to be considered a contender."

Linux : Reviews : Understanding the Linux Kernel

Linux : Reviews : Extreme Linux Developers Forum (ELDF): An overview
Posted: ( Sun 4th Mar 2001 09:24:16[PM] UTC )
Topics at the ELDF ranged from the somewhat pedestrian "Cluster Building Fundamentals" to a point-counterpoint session on why Open Source is/isn’t more secure than proprietary source, to a talk on how to get your Linux cluster to approach an inner state of homeostasis. A synopsis of some of the interesting talks.

Linux : Reviews : Trustix Secure Linux 1.2: Distribution for the pros
Posted: ( Fri 2nd Mar 2001 01:33:14[AM] UTC )
Trustix Secure Linux is a distribution that focuses on providing a server distribution that is secure. No frills here. It is geared more to the seasoned professional than the regular user or hobbyist and is not designed with `ease-of-use' motto in mind.

Linux : Reviews : SuSE Linux 7.1: A Windows-killer
Posted: ( Thu 1st Mar 2001 08:59:16[PM] UTC )
SuSE's 7.1, is a platform you could install out of the box, plunk a Windows user in front of it, and they could work with it. Not tweak it, not play with it but, work with it. This is the distribution Corel Linux wanted to be: easy to use for newbies, with all of the power of Linux.

Linux : Reviews : Evolution's latest mutations
Posted: ( Wed 28th Feb 2001 09:52:27[PM] UTC )
"For Linux to take a prominent place on John Q. User's desktop, it needs a top-notch graphical email client. Evolution may be it. But, while some serious progress has been made between Evolution 0.2 and the current 0.8, there is still work to be done before 1.0 goes out the door later this year."
