Even if your work doesn't require you to reboot your Linux machine several times a day, waiting for a system to reboot can be a real drag. Enter kexec. Essentially, kexec is a fast reboot feature that lets you reboot to a new Linux kernel -- without having to go through a bootloader.

With a stream of Linux based desktop alternatives flooding the market, the battle against software giant Microsoft has reached higher ground. The latest entrant, a company called Everyone's Linux (ELX), is all set to launch its product range in India, with a radically different mantra - "If you cant beat them with innovation, ape them."
Interestingly, the Hyderabad based company has recently appointed ex-SCO employee Manojit Majumdar to spearhead its sales effort in the country.

Global File System (GFS) is a cluster file-system for operating system distributions based on the Linux kernel. It is used as a shared file-system commonly on share-accessible block storage such as fibre-channel, shared SCSI, iSCSI and FireWire (IEEE 1394) devices. Logical Volume Manager (LVM) is a Linux kernel component and a set of user-land utilities which allow a system-administrator to group physical block storage devices into logical storage pools and create logical block-storage volumes out of them which are more wieldable and manageable and provide some useful features over the partition approach.

It’s free for download but you have to pay a tiny bit to mail order it or buy it from a company. If you’re getting Linux for more than 2-3 PCs, you can also get training and support at a small free, if you choose to have it. Else it’s the Linux community on the Net to your rescue.
